Jalilis close Zan, Boogie

The Jalili family of restaurateurs and business owners have closed two downtown nightclubs.

Co-owner Mike Jalili confirmed via email that the Zan and Boogie nightclubs have shuttered. Zan operated at 311 S. Patton Ave., with Boogie nearby at 321 South Ave.

"We decided to get out of [the] nightclub business and focus on restaurants only," Jalili said via email.

Zan's Facebook page additionally posted yesterday that Zan, Boogie and Bubbles, a bar within Boogie, have permanently closed, effective immediately.

The Jalilis in 2008 unveiled plans for Zan after buying the building that previously housed the Agrario fine-dining restaurant and the upstairs Bodega Bar adjacent to Patton Alley Pub, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.

Boogie, reportedly one of the oldest bars in downtown Springfield, reopened in 2018 after closing in 2017, according to a Springfield News-Leader article and past SBJ reporting.

KY3, which was first to report on the Zan and Boogie closures, cited safety and security concerns by the owners.

One recent incident involving Zan and the Springfield Police Department was in August 2023, when several people were arrested amid a disturbance outside of the nightclub, according to an SPD Facebook post.

The real estate housing the Boogie and Zan nightclubs is owned by the Jalilis, according to Greene County assessor records. Co-owner Billy Jalili said the family likely would sell the buildings.

"We are also offering jobs with our other locations for the employees that lost their jobs due to closing of Boogie and Zan," he said via email.

The Jalilis also own Black Sheep, Char Steakhouse & Oyster Bar and Flame Steakhouse, according to past reporting.
