Game Changers: Roy Clark

Posted online
Known widely as the former host of TV variety show “Hee Haw,” Roy Clark did much to put Branson on the map and build its reputation as a live-music and entertainment destination. In 1983, Clark opened the Roy Clark Celebrity Theatre in Branson, becoming the first country music star to operate his own theater on the Highway 76 strip. On the leading edge of the Branson boom, the city today hosts roughly 8 million visitors a year. Clark frequently played in Branson during the 1980s and ‘90s before he sold the venue. In 2009, Clark was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
