Two former Burger King locations went up for sale in recent months, with one selling and another still on the market.
Dave Murray, co-owner of R.B. Murray Co., brokered the sale of the former Burger King location at 1220 E. Republic Road for roughly $850,000.
Murray said the 3,000-square-foot building on 1acre - put up for sale by Chicago-based Legacy Enterprises Inc. - was listed May 20.
"I sold it in three days by the time I got it," he said. "I had four offers in three days."
Murray declined to disclose the name of the buyer. He said the deal will likely close within a month.
Another Burger King property at 3020 E. Sunshine St. is listed for sale by Bart Collins, a broker with Murney Associates, Realtors.
The 3,437-square-foot property, owned by Woodland Hills, Calif.-based Sunflower Square Shopping Center LLC, is listed for $1.3 million and also is available for a 20-year triple net lease at a rate of $8,500 a month. Triple net means the lessee pays rent, taxes, insurance and maintenance.
Collins said he has received an offer for the property, which was listed May 25, but it was not accepted.
Springfield-based Swisshelm Group held the local Burger King franchise rights for nearly 33 years before selling to Burnsville, Minn.-based Duke and King Acquisition Corp. in March 2007.
Duke and King filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in December, when it began seeking buyers for its franchised Burger King units, according to an article from
Nation's Restaurant News.
Now, five Burger King locations exist in the Springfield area. The addresses and owners are:
- 525 S. National Ave., Mo.BK LLC;
- 935 W. Kearney St., Spring Investment LLC;
- 2138 N. Glenstone Ave., Tacci Family Trust c/o Duke and King;
- 3009 S. Campbell Ave., South Campbell Street Investment Co. LLC; and
- 1699 W. Jackson St. in Ozark, Mike Dam and Minh Chi Lo.
