Family farm adds commercial elements

A century farm in Ozark is partially transitioning into a commercial agritourism operation starting with the opening of a mercantile next month.

Dubbed Cassidy Station, the development is located on one of two farmsteads at Estes Farms, which has been passed down through generations within the Estes family, according to a news release. Kyle and Hollie Estes have worked this year to restore the historic farmstead of Cassidy Station.

The first phase of the project, called Cassidy Mercantile, is scheduled to open to the public at the beginning of next month.

"Since Cassidy Station sits on Estes Farms, which is still a working farm and will continue to be, I want it to bridge the gap for kids that don't have these experiences growing up anymore," Kyle Estes said in the release. "It has been my life's passion to make sure that others can share in these farm-life experiences."

Sarah Hoogendoorn, a Cassidy Station spokesperson, said the full project is slated for completion in spring 2023. Other planned amenities include a meat shop with products from the farm, an event space in a barn that's being restored, a bridal suite, a garden shop and outdoor entertainment spaces, such as an amphitheater. Hoogendoorn declined to disclose the cost of the development, which also is slated to have a boutique Airbnb and offer animal interactions.

Estes is self-performing construction work for the project designed by Insight Design Architects LLC, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting.

Hoogendoorn said Estes owns Estes Stancer Commercial Group and has been investing in the Ozark community for 19 years.

Cassidy Station is located on the south side of State Highway CC in Christian County, according to the release.
