Philanthropists Bill and Virginia Darr have pledged to match donations made this month to Council of Churches of the Ozarks Inc.'s Ambassadors for Children program.
The Darr family pledged $50,000 in matching funds to support children in foster care, according to a news release. Ambassadors for Children in 2023 provided more than 1,900 outfits, among other clothing items, as well as Christmas gifts for some 650 children.
"Missouri ranks 49th out of 50 states in terms of financial support for foster families, and yet we are at the top of the list as far as the number of children in care," CCO CEO Jaimie Trussell said in the release. "We have too few foster families and too few resources, leaving too many children in crisis."
The campaign this month coincides with National Foster Care Awareness Month.
The Darrs made a similar pledge to CCO's Ambassadors for Children in May 2023, according to past reporting.
