U.S. Congress is slated to get back to work today after a recess during the past month.
Major topics facing the government are another shutdown and gun control discussions, according to CNN.
"We implore you to seize this moment when your leadership and influence over Republicans in Congress on the issue of guns is so critical," Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said in a letter to President Donald Trump on Sunday. "We believe you have a unique opportunity to save American lives by giving political cover to your fellow Republicans to finally pass meaningful gun safety legislation."
