City Utilities of Springfield this morning introduced Gary Gibson as its next general manager.
A 28-year employee of CU, Gibson will succeed Scott Miller, who’s retiring by year’s end, officials announced at a morning news conference livestreamed on Facebook.
Gibson, who’s currently associate general manager of customer operations and communications at CU, said Miller is “leaving us on solid footing.” CU’s general manager since 2011, Miller has worked for the municipal utility company since 2002.
“He truly has built a strong culture of reliability. I plan to build on that foundation,” Gibson said at the news conference. “I am excited and humbled, both, for the opportunity to get to lead.”
Board of Public Utilities Chairman Joe Reynolds said the board voted unanimously to name Gibson the next general manager after a process that involved national search firm Mycoff Fry Partners LLC. Two public input meetings also were scheduled as part of the process. Noting multiple rounds of interviews were held, Reynolds said an "excess of 20-plus people" applied for the job.
