Banking with a Purpose

Posted online

The Assemblies of God Credit Union (AGCU) is committed to providing solutions to improve the financial lives of its members as well as give back to faith-focused and community organizations. AGCU donates 10% of annual earnings to support church and ministry, educational scholarships and programs, and humanitarian efforts locally and worldwide.

Humble beginnings
From its inception in 1951 in a single room at the Assemblies of God National Office to today, AGCU has put members’ needs at the forefront. Initially, AGCU was dedicated to pastors, missionaries, and Assemblies of God employees. However, as the credit union has grown, so too has its membership.

Over the years, AGCU has strengthened its membership to include people with the Assemblies of God institutions of higher learning, Convoy of Hope and its employees, and immediate family members of eligible members. Last year AGCU’s membership voted to include adherents of Assemblies of God churches in the United States, making AGCU available across the national AG Fellowship.

Looking to the future
Today, AGCU is a full-service, not-for-profit financial institution and one of the 10 largest faith-based credit unions in the United States. AGCU serves the banking needs of individuals and families, church and ministry, and business clients across the nation with more than 17,000 members in all 50 states, including missionaries in 190 countries. Members enjoy day-to-day banking services like video, online and mobile banking, bill pay, high interest earning and free checking, credit cards, personal loans, auto loans, mortgages, insurance, ministry and business accounts and more.

AGCU is continually working with its membership to expand product and service offerings, add new banking technologies and address the changing needs of its members and what they expect from a financial institution.

Help during COVID
Throughout the pandemic, AGCU has been steadfast in its assistance to members and fellowship. AGCU was the largest originator of PPP loans for churches and businesses across Missouri by credit unions. Through its digital giving platform, churches were better equipped to navigate changing COVID restrictions and provide a channel for their congregation to continue tithing and giving back to their church and missionaries. AGCU also offered loan relief and worked one-on-one to assist members with financial hardship due to the virus.

Purpose driven work
AGCU employees want to do something that matters and makes a difference. Employees of AGCU make an impact by doing something that has purpose and meaning, knowing they work for an organization that isn’t solely focused on the bottom line.

Members are the owners at AGCU and tend to be people who want to make the world a better place to live, in both big and small ways. The service and support provided to members allow employees to be a part of something much bigger than the organization. They’re part of a team of people who are changing the world and making a difference one person, one interaction and one smile at a time.

AGCU employees take pride in their work and the contributions they make each day and know the company is committed to excellence and continuous improvement and adheres to the highest ethical standards. AGCU is more than a credit union; it’s a community of believers passionate about serving others so everyone can live for a greater purpose.
