Arizona company acquires local Auto-Magic, Jiffy Lube owner

Posted online
Tucson, Ariz.-based Mister Car Wash today closed on an acquisition of Springfield-based Orman LLC, owner of area Auto-Magic car washes and Jiffy Lube franchise stores.

Financial terms were undisclosed.

With the purchase, Mister Car Wash receives three properties in Springfield and a self-serve car wash in Hollister. The properties were previously home to locally owned Auto-Magic locations and franchise stores of Houston, Texas-based Jiffy Lube.

Mister Car Wash will not retain the Springfield and Hollister franchise rights of Jiffy Lube and will instead convert the locations to their own brand, Mister Car Wash Lube Services. The Jiffy Lube store at 850 E. Kearney St. will close, said Sarah Mendez, Mister Car Wash marketing director.

Mister Car Wash, which makes its Missouri debut with the acquisition of Orman LLC, owns 69 car washes and 28 lube centers nationwide.

"Springfield was a good fit for us," Mendez said. "Auto-Magic and Jiffy Lube are a well-run chain with a great group of locations.

"Those stores really fit into the profile of the types of locations that we seek to buy and want to manage ourselves."

Mendez said there are little if any operational changes planned for the locations.

About 180 employees will have the chance to continue with Mister Car Wash, said Denise McCoy, Orman LLC director of marketing and human resources. But McCoy added that her position, along with the other two Orman LLC office jobs, are being cut.

Steve Orman and Barry Krall of Orman LLC purchased the former owner of Auto-Magic and local Jiffy Lube franchise rights, Barclay Enterprises, in October 2004, when owner Bill Barclay retired after 44 years with the business, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.

“It has been an honor to be part of Auto-Magic and Jiffy Lube over the last several years, and my family looks forward to continuing our work in the community,” Orman said in a news release. “The experience to work with our employees and customers has been a privilege, and I have taken pride in our customers stepping up to the challenge to support the community in whatever cause we were working with."

Prior to purchasing the business, Orman worked for Barclay Enterprises for more than 10 years.[[In-content Ad]]
