Along Interstate 44 in northeast Springfield sits the headquarters of Salon Service Group, which distributes professional hair care products in 19 states. A 15,000-square-foot office fronts a 70,000-square-foot, Costco-like warehouse at 1520 E. Evergreen St. The company founded in 1987 by Gino Barbo has been in its current headquarters since 2015.
“A lot of the design comes from Gino,” says Remington Barbo, regional sales director in Missouri and Gino’s son. “He’s always loved a modern look. It’s kind of his take on who we are.”
Salon Service Group, which is backed by Kansas City-based private equity firm Great Range Capital, has nearly 60 stores and more than 420 employees.
Plaza Shopping Center gained an arcade with the March 1 opening of The Flying Lap LLC; the repurposing of space operated by Burrell Behavioral Health resulted in the March 18 opening of the company’s second autism center; and a group of downtown business owners teamed up to reopen J.O.B. Public House.
