2022 40 Under 40: Laine Scholz

Discovery Center of Springfield Inc.

Posted online

Once Laine Scholz makes up her mind about accomplishing something, she makes sure that nothing stands in her way.

Most recently, Scholz, 39, got a new job at Discovery Center of Springfield Inc., starting March 1 as director of advancement. But she’s no stranger to aiding growth. Previously, as director of development at FosterAdopt Connect, she doubled fundraising revenue to $100,000 in 2021.

Scholz says she desires to keep advocating for children and populations in need.

She has been part of many community organizations, such as The Child Advocacy Center, Doula Foundation, Dynamic Strides Therapy and Diaper Bank of the Ozarks. She also has served as a school PTA president and is assistant chair on the provisional membership committee for the Junior League of Springfield.

First job? At Garbo’s Pizzeria. I was quickly fired because it turns out, you can’t call in sick when you aren’t really sick if your mom owns the place. Thankfully, she gave me a second chance a few years later.

What did you learn the hard way? I learned to truly appreciate my family after the sudden loss of my father in 2015. Before that loss, I was much more focused on my career and struggled with work-life balance. The experience was eye opening and made me reprioritize the time I spend with loved ones.

Favorite local order? Butter chicken from Taj Mahal.
