2021 40 Under 40: Marie Moore

Executive Director of Operations, Mercy Hospital Springfield

Posted online

Over the course of her career, Marie Moore, 33, has gravitated toward leadership roles, turning her registered nursing job into more advanced positions until she reached operations director.

Whether she is transforming a medical unit with a 75% turnover rate into one of the hospital’s top-performing units or spearheading Mercy Hospital Springfield’s command center response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Moore finds success in pairing her clinical background with a talent for business operations and strategy development.

Looking ahead, Moore hopes to continue expanding her role beyond the health care system, and establish deeper ties to community organizations and support.

First job? Big Dog Sports Wear at the Tanger Outlet in Branson when I was 16. I still fold my T-shirts that way, in a perfect stack.

Proudest moment? When I had my first patient code, and we successfully revived the patient. It was encouraging to see medical training and skill pay off with a true spirit of teamwork across the care team to save a life.

Professional aha moment? When I transitioned from nursing leadership into operations. I always thought I would stay in nursing practice, but this unexpected turn ignited some of my passions and strengths that I didn’t realize I had around the business of health care.

Favorite hobby or pastime? I love spending time on Table Rock Lake and outdoor recreation.
