2020 Men of the Year: Robert Cirtin

Robert Cirtin Investigations LLC

What isn’t on Robert Cirtin’s resume? That is the question. From politics and higher education to investigations and law enforcement – Cirtin has established a college major at Evangel University, led the Greene County Commission and conducted investigations in numerous sectors.

Cirtin has experienced life in ways few others have, and he continues keeping his watchful eye on Greene County as president and owner of Robert Cirtin Investigations LLC.

“We are exceptionally fortunate to have opportunities where we can help people,” he says. “This includes the people who make up businesses, law firms, insurance companies, religious organizations and the general public. Much of our success is based on the idea that we try to place ourselves in the position of our clients, to experience what they are going through.”

Cirtin’s career began in law enforcement as a patrol officer in Boone County, later moving to the Springfield Police Department. Cirtin
earned a degree in biblical studies from Central Bible College. He also earned a master’s in criminal justice and sociology from Lincoln University and worked with the Missouri Division of Professional Registration as chief investigator. Later, he worked for the Missouri State Board of Accountancy as director of investigations.

In 1991, Cirtin accepted a position as criminal justice professor at Evangel. While he was occupied with his new role, his past as a sleuth came quickly calling. State agencies continued requesting his expertise on cases and he worked with them once more as a contractor. As more agencies reached out, the investigator decided to create his own LLC. Thus came about the foundation of Robert Cirtin Investigations the same year in 1991.

At that time, Evangel did not offer a criminal justice major, leading Cirtin to create a study on the benefits of offering the major.

“In the fall of 1993, the bachelor of science in criminal justice was launched with 35 students having declared it as their major,” Cirtin says. “The criminal justice program has prepared students to become practitioners in our criminal justice system throughout the country.”

Cirtin subsequently became director of the program.

His team at Robert Cirtin Investigations has conducted investigations for such organizations as the Missouri State Board of Nursing. Currently, the company has two full-time and three part-time employees. In 2006, Cirtin also began offering consultation services for church security and safety.

“It is very gratifying knowing that for 29 years my leadership has grown the business, created jobs and that my company has contributed to the financial success of my employees,” he says.

While serving as Greene County presiding commissioner from 2015-18, he pursued reform of multiple departments at the county and established programs for managing finances.

Civically, Cirtin regularly sponsors community events and shows financial support for charities including Harmony House Inc. and Ozarks Food Harvest Inc. He has been a member and board leader of numerous local organizations, including serving as president of Greene County 100 Club.
