Allan Blaue’s eighth-grade journalism class at Nixa Junior High visited Springfield Business Journal’s offices April 22. The students learned the ins and outs of the Fourth Estate from each department on a guided tour by Publisher Jennifer Jackson. SBJ staff also treated the students to a taste of downtown Springfield life with a fresh dozen from Hurts Donut Co.

Mother’s also introduced its new beer, a pomegranate hibiscus Belgian wheat ale dubbed Blush.

Hundreds of friends, family and community members pack Park Central Square on April 22 for the memorial service of Tom Billionis. The service was led by Phil Snider, senior minister of Brentwood Christian Church, and included eulogies by Billionis’ parents and longtime friends. The co-owner of The Coffee Ethic LLC and a downtown Springfield stakeholder died April 16 after a health emergency while running on the Sac River Trail. He was 44. Billionis and Jim Hamilton in 2007 launched the coffee shop on the square.
