President Donald Trump today is expected to sign an executive order on police reform after the killing of George Floyd by a law enforcement officer.
The order would create a database to track officers who are accused of misconduct in an attempt to block them from going from one police force to another. Additionally, it would focus on credentialing and certifying police officers, as well as sending out social workers with officers when mental health issues are a factor.
"We need great people in our police departments. And we have mostly great people, I would say that. I would say that with certainty," Trump said. "We have mostly great people. ... But we will do better, even better."
Legislators in the House and Senate also are working on police reform bills, NPR reports.
