Springfield nonprofits awarded $309K in tax credits

The Missouri Department of Economic Development this morning announced nearly $309,000 in tax credits would be awarded to a pair of Springfield nonprofits.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield Inc. was selected for $200,000, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ozarks is slated to receive $108,678, according to a news release. In all, the state is awarding $17.7 million in Neighborhood Assistance Program and Youth Opportunities Program tax credits.

“Missouri nonprofits have gone above and beyond to provide critical services to Missourians throughout the past year,” Gov. Mike Parson said in the release. “This program provides support to these organizations as they continue their great work to serve Missouri’s at-risk youth and cultivate strong, productive communities.”

Boys & Girls Clubs' proceeds from the tax credits are earmarked for before- and after-school enrichment programming for K-5 children. Big Brothers Big Sisters must use the funds for its mentoring program that matches youth with adult role models.

Through the programs, donors receive tax credits for contributions to nonprofits.
