SEC fines 6 credit rating agencies

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has fined six credit rating agencies to the tune of $49 million.

The SEC cited the companies' “significant failures” to keep electronic communications.

Moody’s Investor Services and S&P Global Ratings each are paying $20 million in civil penalties. Fitch Ratings reportedly agreed to pay $8 million, with A.M. Best Rating Services at $1 million, HR Ratings de México, S.A. de C.V. at $250,000 and Demotech at $100,000.
