Rolla bank completes $2M purchase of Springfield YMCA building

Posted online

The downtown Springfield YMCA building is officially under new ownership.

Linda Goff, spokesperson for Phelps County Bank, said via email the Rolla-based company finalized the deal yesterday. Ozarks Regional YMCA, which shuttered its Ward Downtown branch in the building at the end of March, was the seller.

The deal includes a clause that allows the YMCA to use the building this summer for office space and camp programs, Goff said.

"We agreed to that arrangement so our work on the property will begin after that wraps up," she said.

Realtor Gerald Zamora of Zamora Real Estate said via email he brokered the transaction.

Phelps County Bank recently submitted a $2.05 million offer for the 417 S. Jefferson Ave. building through an auction process, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting. Bank officials have said the building would be used for a branch and as a regional hub.

The YMCA last summer originally listed the 110-year-old building on the market at $4.5 million, according to past reporting.

Constructed in 1913, the Italianate brick structure that housed the Ward Downtown YMCA comprises 62,000 square feet, including a 1971 addition. Its cost to build in 1913 was $100,000, the equivalent of $3 million today, according to past reporting.
