The city of Rogersville was awarded a federal grant for improvements to its city park.
The project is one of 19 that collectively were selected for more than $3.3 million in funds from the National Park Service, according to a news release. The projects were recommended by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources’ Division of State Parks.
“Since 1965, Missouri has received more than $90 million dollars for Land and Water Conservation Fund projects,” DNR Director Dru Buntin said in the release. “These grants provide assistance for communities to create and improve their outdoor recreational opportunities in order to boost health and wellness for all.”
Rogersville City Park was chosen to receive $92,125 for a splash pad and pavilion project. It's the only project in the Springfield area receiving funding in the grant round.
The selected projects require a 50% match, according to the release. The Land and Water Conservation Fund program allows recipients to buy, develop and renovate outdoor recreation projects.
Taking shape on 3.5 acres just east of State Highway H/Glenstone Avenue in the area of Valley Water Mill Park are the Fulbright Heights Apartments – three 23,000-square-foot buildings with 24 units each for a total of 72 one- and two-bedroom apartments.
