The Old Glass PlaceAl Miller, owner of Miller Coach Co., opened The Old Glass Place on Feb. 25 at 521 St. Louis St. After purchasing the property in November 2012, Miller and a staff of two began a yearlong renovation to turn the former Binswanger Glass building into a downtown events venue. With its first event on Feb. 28 and 12 others booked, including a Jackson Day event April 4–5, Miller said The Old Glass Place can host multiple events at a time with 12,000 square feet on a single level and 3,000 square feet in the central area. Miller, who has experience working in fire departments, at police stations and operating his own ambulance manufacturing business, self-funded the new venture for an undisclosed amount. He said renovation costs exceeded the building purchase price. With amenities including an LED big screen, custom sound system, large stage and stocked bar, the space can hold up to 550 people for such events as weddings, receptions, theater productions, fundraisers, meetings and musical performances. Pricing varies by event size and needs. Hours: By appointment. Phone: (417) 501-8035. Web:
