Texas Soul Boutique
After several years of making and selling handmade jewelry in other boutiques around the Ozarks, first-time business owner Dalton Cohen started Texas Soul Boutique. The 1,000-square-foot store opened March 4 at 103 W. Church St., Ste. A, in Ozark, selling handmade jewelry, shoes, accessories, and clothing for women, baby girls and tweens. Cohen said the store was most recently a restaurant, Mad Hatterz Eatz & Treatz, declining to disclose startup costs or lease terms. Aside from items she, her mother Shannon Stewart and grandmother Nancy Riffell make to sell in the store, Cohen said other vendors pay around $250 in monthly rent and an undisclosed commission for space in the shop. The three family members also have teaching backgrounds, with Cohen a former kindergarten teacher at Espy Elementary in Nixa. She said her mother still teaches art at Espy, while Riffell is a retired educator.
