Quizno's Subs to open in Nixa Centre

Nixa will get a new restaurant in August. Quizno's Subs has leased 1,600 square feet at 451 Aldersgate Dr. in the Nixa Centre next to Wal-Mart Supercenter.

Mark Rosen, Quizno's area director, said the Nixa store will join the current store at 2043 E. Independence in Springfield and another now being built in the Fremont Center. Two more Springfield locations are planned for late 1999, Rosen said.

Rick Strong will be the owner and operator of the Nixa Centre store, which will seat 49 people and initially employ 12 to 14 people.

"We primarily sell Italian-type sub sandwiches, but we have a wide variety 22 sandwiches with a large variety of tastes and ingredients, including vegetarian, low fat, low fat low cal, salads and desserts," Rosen said.

The Denver-based Quizno's Subs has 600 restaurants in the United States, Japan and Canada.

Quizno's are generally open 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Friday, but weekend hours have not been determined for Nixa, Rosen said.

Burger King opens June 10

A Burger King restaurant opened June 10 at 315 N. Massey Blvd. (Highway 160). The store is managed by Cindy Anderson and features a three-story indoor playground that's available for children's birthday parties. Anderson said the new store "has been very busy a great opening."

Burger King serves breakfast 6-10:30 a.m. Monday through Saturday and 7-11 a.m. on Sunday. The store closes at midnight, but the drive-up window is open until 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday. It employs 30 to 35 people.

Mountain Ducks draw crowd support

Professional baseball's debut in Ozark resulted in large crowds June 10-20. Ozark Mountain Ducks General Manager Brad Eldridge said total attendance for the first 11-game home stand was 37,756 fans, an average of 3,432 per game. Eldridge said nearly 1,800 season tickets have been sold for the regular season that ends Aug. 30.

"We have not had major problems since the opening night with parking and traffic," Eldridge said.

Because almost 5,000 showed up to the first game, most of them within 30 minutes of the first pitch, there were major traffic problems.

"But since then we've encouraged people to come earlier and to use alternate routes. On Father's Day we had 4,000 people and everyone got in and out in 15 minutes," he said.

Additional asphalt- covered parking has also been added since June 10.

First USA will sponsor a fireworks night July 3, and companies such as Xerox, Cantrell Barnes Printing Inc. and McLeod USA Publishing will provide giveaway items such as yo-yos and baseball-card sets on other sponsor nights.

The Ducks will play eight home games July 2-9.

"The response from the fans has been fantastic," Eldridge said.

"Although the team is not in first place, the atmosphere is fun, family entertainment with music, sound effects and promotions."

MFA Town and Country store to be built

The farming community in the Republic area will have its own agribusiness service center around Jan. 1, 2000.

The Republic Agri Services Center will be called MFA Town & Country, and will offer a variety of MFA's product lines. The store will sell pet and livestock feed, animal health supplies, livestock equipment, fencing, seed, fertilizer, crop protection products and farm equipment.

For the homeowner and small acreage farmer, the store will provide tack and horse supplies, lawn and garden products, pet supplies, hardware and a rental center.

"There's lots of agriculture in that area," said MFA Inc. Springfield Group Manager Lionel Bridges.

"But there are no major farm-supply dealers in Republic. The new store will be more convenient for our customers there."

The new store will operate as part of the MFA Springfield group, which includes stores in Ash Grove, Marshfield, Ozark, Rogersville and Springfield. This group also operates a feed mill and four fertilizer plants in the area.

The 20,000-square-foot MFA Town & Country is being built on five acres on U.S. Highway 60 and will provide 22 to 24 full-time jobs, Bridges said.

MFA Inc. of Columbia was founded in 1914 and is the oldest regional cooperative in the United States with sales approaching $1 billion and more than 200 Agri Services Centers.
