John M. McNabb of Sapp Design Associates Architects received a Missouri architectural license. McNabb has been at SDA Architects since June 2004 and is a Drury University graduate.

Banking
BancorpSouth investment adviser Nadia Cavner was named No. 1 adviser nationwide with Franklin Templeton Investments in its 2009 investment banking division.

Education
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services awarded Missouri State University a $148,937 grant to provide hearing screening and follow-up services for families of newborns who do not pass a hearing screening at birth or who are diagnosed with hearing loss shortly after birth.

Teresa Wise was named principal of Springfield Public Schools’ Jarrett Middle School. Wise is assistant principal at Glendale High School and will move to Jarrett during the 2010–11 school year. Wise has an associate’s degree from Crowder College, a bachelor’s from the University of Iowa, a master’s from Pittsburg State University and a Specialist in Educational Administration from Missouri State University.

Engineering
Professional engineer Andrew Novinger joined Anderson Engineering Inc. as municipal infrastructure project engineer. Novinger provides design services for the Springfield and Joplin offices. He spent 13 years as consultant and project manager for Shaffer & Hines and has a bachelor’s in civil engineering from University of Missouri-Columbia.  

Hospitality
Days Inn Battlefield was named a Best Service Hotel in TripAdvisor’s 2010 Travelers’ Choice awards.

Nonprofit
Janice Frederic joined Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ozarks as case manager. She provides support for volunteers and families who take part in the organization’s community programs. Frederic was previously a member of the detention staff at the Johnson County Juvenile Center and earned a bachelor’s in criminal justice at University of Central Missouri.

City Utilities Director of Distribution Gary Gibson joined the board of directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ozarks. Gibson earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Missouri University of Science & Technology.

Corey Johnson was named executive director of the Lebanon Family YMCA. Johnson, who joined the YMCA staff in 2001, earned his bachelor’s degree in recreation and leisure studies from Missouri State University.

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Springfield appointed Mark Gordon of KSFX as president of its board of directors and Sid Needem of Kraft Foods as president-elect.

Rev. Mark Struckhoff was named executive director of Council of Churches of the Ozarks after serving as interim executive director. He is a Missouri State University graduate and an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church. He earned a Master of Divinity from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

Photography
Springfield’s Apple Studios Photography received the WeddingWire 2010 Bride’s Choice Award for excellence in wedding photography. The annual award surveys newlyweds about vendor quality and service in 19 categories. Apple Studios ranked in the top 5 percent.

Public Relations
The Southwest Missouri Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America elected its 2010 board of directors. Ann Elwell, community relations coordinator for Webster University, is chapter president. Transportation
Prime Inc. received the Lowe’s Cos. Inc. 2009 Gold Carrier Service Award recognizing on-time service.

Utilities

A safe room and classroom addition at Willard Central Elementary School will be used by the music, arts and athletic programs for a district that had 4,536 students last year, according to Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education figures, but school officials say enrollment is projected to grow.
