A 20-year-old electrical service contractor has been acquired by an Iowa company with recent ties to Springfield.

Horton Electric Service Co. was purchased by Des Moines-based The Waldinger Corp., according to a news release. A company spokesperson said the deal closed today for undisclosed terms.

Rich Horton, who founded the Springfield company in 2003, is staying on board as a project manager. His team of 28 electricians also are slated to be retained, officials say. Horton Electric will keep its name as a division of The Waldinger Corp.

“After 20 years of running a successful business, I’m pleased to have found the right partner in Waldinger to take the next step in ensuring long-term success for my co-workers and customers,” Horton said in the release. “These two companies are a great match, and this deal will allow us to continue providing the best service and value to our customers for a long time to come.”

The Waldinger Corp. in 2021 acquired Springfield-based Connelly Plumbing, Heating and Air and its sister company, CMI Mechanical, according to past reporting.

With the purchase of Horton Electric, Waldinger’s Springfield workforce now totals more than 100 employees, according to the release.
