A previously planned eighth branch for Legacy Bank & Trust Co. in Springfield also will serve as the company’s new corporate headquarters.

Construction on the 40,000-square-foot building at 3250 E. Sunshine St. is expected to start this spring, with an estimated completion in summer 2021, according to a news release. Legacy Bank President and CEO John Everett said by email this morning that cost estimates are still being compiled. He noted a groundbreaking ceremony would take place around late March or early April.

The East Sunshine Street bank replaces a former Meek’s Lumber Co. property, which Legacy Bank purchased in October 2019 for undisclosed terms, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting. The 2.4-acre property had been listed for $2.6 million, according to marketing materials supplied by R.B. Murray Co. President Ross Murray. R.B. Murray Co. brokered the deal.

“We are excited to strengthen and solidify our presence in the community with a robust physical presence,” said Legacy Bank & Trust Co. Chairman Chris Harlin, in the release. “This move will improve our service, efficiency and collaboration, while providing a first-class work environment for our associates.”

The four-story structure’s first floor is designed to comprise roughly 1,600 square feet for retail banking space along with 4,500 square feet for customer-centered workspaces and amenities, and 3,900 square feet for a drive-thru, according to the release. Around 20,000 square feet on the second and fourth floors will comprise office space to house the bank’s executive team, centralized operations and community development divisions.

Everett said via email the entire third floor, comprising roughly 10,000 square feet, will be available for lease through R.B. Murray Co. When reached this morning, Murray declined to disclose lease rates.

BRP Architects was selected to design the project, with Base Construction & Management LLC to serve as general contractor, according to the release.

Legacy Bank currently operates seven branches, including one in Springfield at 4108 S. National Ave.

The new headquarters will result in the company selling its roughly 4,000-square-foot administrative office it purchased for an undisclosed amount in December 2018, Everett said. Located in Kensington Place, the office condominium at 1525 E. Republic Road, Ste. B-135, is about a two-minute drive from the Springfield branch, according to past SBJ reporting.
