House passes emergency border aid bill

Posted online

The U.S. House of Representatives yesterday passed a $4.5 billion emergency border aid bill.

The bill, passed by a 230-195 vote, would send aid to the southern border, where the federal government has sparked criticism with its treatment of migrant children.

The Senate is likely to vote to pass its own version of the bill. The Senate Appropriations Committee previously passed a separate, $4.6 billion border bill.

The White House reportedly has taken issue with both bills because they do not include funding for more Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention beds.
