Former Blues owner dies

Mike Shanahan, former owner and chairman of the St. Louis Blues NHL franchise, died Monday. He was 78.

An official cause of death was not announced, according to Fox 2 News.

“The St. Louis Blues organization is saddened to learn of the passing of former Blues Chairman Mike Shanahan," current Chairman Tom Stillman said in a statement. "Mr. Shanahan set a shining example of leadership both on and off the ice. He captivated Blues fans and made an immeasurable impact on the organization."

Shanahan was known for bringing on Brett Hull in 1987. The player went on to set franchise scoring records and win the NHL's MVP award in 1991.
