Forbes releases global billionaires list: Where does Morris rank?

Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris made a large climb on Forbes' annual list of the world's wealthiest people.

Morris, 74, ranked No. 424 on the list, up 281 spots from No. 705 last year. Forbes estimates his net worth at $6 billion, up from $4.1 billion estimated on the same list last year.

It's the largest net worth estimate yet for Morris by Forbes, which previously put his peak at $5.7 billion in 2019. Bass Pro has estimated annual sales of $6.5 billion, according to the publication.

"We share a steadfast belief that the future of our industry, and the outdoor sports we all love, depends – more than anything else – on how we manage our natural resources," Morris is credited with saying in his Forbes profile.

The Forbes ranking comes on the heels of Morris and Bass Pro welcoming an estimated 500,000 visitors to the retailer’s flagship store in Springfield for the World’s Fishing Fair. The event, in part, celebrated the 50th anniversary of the outdoor retailer.

The Forbes list shows Morris is tied in net worth with billionaires including Tom Gores of Los Angeles private equity firm Platinum Equity; Leo Koguan, co-founder and chair of information technology provider SHI International; and Fredrik Lundberg, CEO and chair of Lundbergforetagen AB in Sweden.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk overtook the No. 1 spot, with an estimated net worth of $219 billion. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who previously led the list, is No. 2 with an estimated net worth of $171 billion.
