“We have to be very creative — it’s not as simple as just saying, ‘Hey, we need money and would you like to give us some?’ It becomes very specific and helping an individual or a business understand why their money is important and how that connects,” says Jody Dow, Executive Director of The Springfield Dream Center. Dow says it’s important for not for profits to find organizations willing to partner with them, but certain projects require finding the right partner. While it’s easy to connect a donor to a story, it’s more difficult to connect them to helping with the utility bill or maintenance-required projects. Dow says they look for grant money to help with those projects, but also try to ask certain companies to help with specific projects.
