Midwest heavy civil construction company Emery Sapp & Sons Inc. has expanded through an equipment purchase.
The Columbia-based business, which operates a handful of offices in the Springfield area, announced in a Jan. 14 news release that it had acquired the highway services group equipment of Irving, Texas-based concrete services company Penhall Co. The financial terms of the deal, comprising some 242 pieces of equipment, were not disclosed in the release.
Officials say the purchase expands ESS' nationwide capabilities in pavement maintenance and preservation and that the company "now owns the largest diamond grinding and grooving fleet in the United States." ESS now has more than 1,000 asphalt and pavement restoration equipment pieces companywide, and the purchase of the Penhall equipment includes 55 diamond grinders and groovers.
“The addition of this kind of equipment, in this amount, shows our dedication to strengthening what we deliver to our partners every day,” said Brandon Finn, executive vice president of asphalt operations at ESS, in the release. “By expanding our fleet, ESS now has the equipment, expertise and team in place to deliver pavement maintenance projects of any scale.”
ESS has more than 270 annual clients, 19 offices, plants and quarry locations, and over 1,600 employees, according to the release.
