Downtown call center hiring 100

Sunrise Media Partners, a call center that recently relocated to downtown Springfield, is planning to hire 100 employees during the next six months, adding to its existing work force of roughly 150.

The full- and part -time positions mostly would comprise sales associates, but the company also is hiring supervisors, trainers and online marketing specialists, said Sunrise President Eric Rowden, noting the move and job additions are being aided by a $95,000 low-interest loan from the city of Springfield.

Sunrise moved July 16 into the roughly 7,500-square-foot bottom floor of the former Springfield Grocers Co. warehouse, known for its painted Yellow Bonnet logo. Sunrise - which largely performs potential student prospecting services for school clients such as Liberty and Strayer universities and Remington College - had been housed at 3322 S. Campbell Ave. for nearly seven years before the move, Rowden said.

"We just wanted to get more centrally located in Springfield," he said. "We feel like being close to all of the colleges will help us in our recruiting efforts."

Springfield developer Craig Wagoner's 323 N. Patton Ave. building has undergone roughly $1.5 million in renovations to reintroduce tenants to the facility, which has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Wagoner said Textbook Brokers Inc. and Dealer Uplink LLC have leased space on the top floor of the building. Deb Scott, a commercial real estate agent with Wilhoit Properties who is brokering the lease of the commercial side of the property, said each business leased 2,650 square feet apiece. A third 2,290-square-foot spot on the top floor, which faces south, is vacant, she said.

Scott said the advertised annual lease rate was $6 per square foot for the bottom floor, which faces Brick City, and $10 per square foot for the top floor, but she declined to disclose final lease rates.

Wagoner said the building's two 1,100-square-foot one-bedroom lofts have been leased through Brentwood Management.[[In-content Ad]]
