Missouri Mike’s BBQ & More is opening a second Springfield restaurant after the sudden closure of another eatery.

The venture owned by Mike Hickman yesterday announced via Facebook that it's taking over the space recently vacated by Downing Street Pour House, 1724 E. Battlefield Road. Comments from Missouri Mike's in the post indicate Downing Street closed over the weekend.

Reached via email, Downing Street owner Matt Arnall said he sold the restaurant "due to personal health reasons." He declined to comment further. The Missouri Mike’s Facebook post cited the “owner’s health” for the Downing Street closure. Hickman could not be reached immediately for comment by deadline.

The original Downing Street Pour House in Hollister remains open. Arnall came on as a franchisee to launch the 5,000-square-foot restaurant in Springfield in August 2020, according to past reporting.

Missouri Mike's, which operates at 2833 W. Chestnut Expressway, hasn't set a concrete date for its new restaurant on Battlefield Road. However, the Facebook post indicated the goal is to get the location up and running by month's end.

The post stated an expanded menu would be added at the second restaurant, and the beer taps, tables and wall art from Downing Street would remain in place.

Missouri Mike’s BBQ & More marked a year in business in August, according to past reporting. In addition to barbecue options such as brisket and burnt ends, the restaurant offers pastrami and other sandwiches.
