CoxHealth is engaging in a restructuring effort that is changing some employee roles, the health system announced Wednesday afternoon.
The plan, which becomes effective June 1, does not include layoffs, according to a news release. Rather, "some reporting relationships are changing as part of this effort," officials said.
“This work is about strengthening how CoxHealth is organized to serve patients, support physicians and advanced practice providers, equip our teams and remain responsive to the communities we serve,” said Max Buetow, CoxHealth’s president and CEO, in the release.
The announcement included a PowerPoint presentation showing new titles for executives such as Dr. Tim Jones, now chief physician executive, Dr. Shawn Usery, now chief clinical officer, and Brock Shamel, now senior vice president of service lines. The health system’s website currently lists Jones as executive vice president and president of Cox Medical Group; Usery as senior vice president and system chief medical officer; and Shamel as senior vice president of Cox Medical Group.
“Our goal is not to change boxes on an organizational chart,” Buetow said in the release. "We are creating clearer roles, stronger alignment, faster decision-making and better support for the people doing the work.”
Officials said in the release that the changes would strengthen physician enterprise and service lines and build enhanced services for the future.
According to the PowerPoint, Cox Medical Group, medical staff and service lines "are unified under clear physician executive ownership – anchored in the patient-physician relationship" under the new model.
CoxHealth spokesperson Randy Berger said via email that Cox Medical Group continues to exist.
"Its leadership remains the same, ultimately reporting to Dr. Tim Jones," Berger said. "Dr. Jones' new title now aligns with other chief titles in executive leadership and reflects his scope over the entire physician enterprise."
