The city of Springfield is undertaking a project that calls for more than $1 million in improvements to one of Galloway Village's primary entryways.
The city's Battlefield Corridor Improvement Project is a series of roadway and intersection improvements along East Battlefield Road between Luster and Lone Pine avenues, according to a news release. The project, which has a price tag of $1.4 million, is scheduled to begin on Aug. 1.
“The public can expect a variety of single-lane closures along Battlefield throughout the project, but we expect traffic to remain flowing,” said Nicholas Edelman, city project manager, in the release. “The Lone Pine intersection may be impacted with lane closures, so drivers should be aware that it might take a few more minutes to get through during certain periods of construction.”
Project details are as follows:
• Additional turn lanes, capacity improvements and infrastructure upgrades in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
• A new trail connection from the Galloway Creek Greenway Trail is slated to be added. A 10-foot-wide path is being added between the city's Lone Pine Recycling Center and the Half-a-Hill Shopping Center.
• Signal upgrades and pedestrian improvements in compliance with the ADA.
• Officials are targeting concrete pavement panel replacements on Battlefield.
Hartman & Co. Inc. is general contractor for the project expected to wrap by winter, according to the release.
