Business makes way for another in Rountree

Posted online

One business is replacing another in the Rountree neighborhood.

Culture Flock is slated to move into the 607 S. Pickwick Ave. spot currently occupied by Culture Counter. Culture Counter, meanwhile, is seeking new digs, according to announcements from the companies.

Culture Flock, which is moving from the Galloway Creek development in Galloway Village, is targeting an early June opening in Rountree near the intersection of Cherry Street and Pickwick Avenue, according to a news release.

"The supportive and tight-knit community make the Rountree area eclectic and exciting. There couldn’t be a more perfect place for Culture Flock," said Summer Trottier, co-owner and marketing and logistics director, in the release.

Culture Flock since 2018 has operated a brick-and-mortar location at 3938 S. Lone Pine Ave., Ste. 102, according to past reporting. The apparel company started as an e-commerce business in 2013.

The 1,300 square feet being taken on by Culture Flock in Rountree has housed Culture Counter since it opened in mid-2020, according to past reporting.

In a post yesterday to the company's Facebook page, Culture Counter owner Bryce Gott said "unfortunate circumstances" have led to the company "being forced to relocate."

"As much as I wanted it to work in the neighborhood I grew up in, Rountree has presented some unique struggles with the untimely road reconstruction project of 2021 as well as continued access limitations," Gott wrote in the post. "Although I’m not sure where we’ll land, I’m confident our next space will hold bigger and brighter things. This space has been a great starter pot, but ultimately, it is limiting our growth, so it’s time to transplant."

Gott could not be reached immediately for comment by deadline to elaborate on the "unfortunate circumstances." He cited a landlord dispute in a Springfield News-Leader article.

Culture Counter provides local and organic produce and pantry items, as well as a walk-up order window that sells drinks and ice cream.

The business is slated to close at its Rountree space on April 15, according to the Facebook post.
