Burrell names new president, CEO

Burrell Behavioral Health hired a new president and CEO less than a year after the sudden death of its founding leader.

C.J. Davis is scheduled to start Oct. 1. He’ll succeed Todd Schaible, who died in December of trauma, six days after falling off a ladder at his home. Paul Thomlinson, Burrell’s vice president of research and quality assurance, served as acting CEO in the interim while the CoxHealth-affiliated nonprofit conducted a national search for its next leader, according to a news release.

“Burrell will continue to expand its mission of becoming the leader in our region, the state of Missouri and the nation in delivering accessible, evidence-based services,” Davis said in the release. “Our goal will be to provide meaningful services in our respective communities and ensure that both our clients and workforce feel engaged and valued.”

The $75 million nonprofit conducts mental health services in areas including anxiety, depression, substance abuse and developmental disabilities. Burrell expects to serve over 30,000 adults this year through its primary services.

“Adapting to appropriately service these needs is one of my primary goals,” Davis added.

Davis comes to Burrell from Logansport, Indiana-based Four County Counseling Center, where, as president and CEO, he leads its $30 million acute care psychiatric unit and transitional residential facilities across eight counties.
