2 big-box stores closing in Springfield

Posted online

Two national retailers are holding liquidation sales, with their exits to mean large vacancies at a pair of Springfield shopping centers.

Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. (Nasdaq: BBBY) and Tuesday Morning Corp. (OTC: TUEMQ) have started liquidation sales nationwide, impacting a store in Primrose Marketplace and Brentwood Center South, respectively, according to their social media pages. All of both companies’ stores are closing.

Bed Bath & Beyond and Tuesday Morning each filed for bankruptcy earlier this year.

The Springfield location of Bed Bath & Beyond is in 30,050 square feet on the west end of Primrose Marketplace, a retail center owned by Ohio-based Chase Properties.

A Chase Properties official could not be reached for comment by deadline.

Tuesday Morning occupies more than 13,000 square feet on the south end of Brentwood Center South.

Curtis Jared of Brentwood Center owner Jared Commercial said the space should become available in around 90 days.

"We currently have one (letter of intent) and are reaching out to some other tenants that might have some interest," he said via email.

Tuesday Morning relocated to Brentwood Center South in 2017 from Plaza Shopping Center, according to past reporting.

It is a shame that both of these stores are going out of business. All 3 girls had their freshman dorm rooms outfitted from these store. I have purchased countless wedding presents from both stores and 2 years ago, my spaghetti pot lost its handle and we searched a total of 4 stores to buy a single pot large enough to boil water for a pot of spaghetti. Tuesday Morning was the only store that sold pots as a single unit. Where will we go now to get wedding presents and single pots?
