The Missouri Republican Party is slated to honor former state Sen. Ron Richard, R-Joplin.
Richard is scheduled to be presented with lifetime achievement honors during a March award ceremony.
"When the history of the state of Missouri is written, Ron Richard will most certainly have a chapter," Gov. Mike Parson said in the release. "Our state has known few public servants who have been a more effective advocate for Missourians than Ron, and I'm proud we’re able to honor my friend in this well-deserved fashion."
Starting in public service in 1990, Richard became the first person in the state's history to serve as House speaker and president pro tem of the Senate. He served in the Senate 2010-18.
