Starbucks closes at Battlefield Mall

Posted online

The Starbucks at Battlefield Mall has closed shop.

Michael Martin, general manager of the mall, confirmed the closure via email.

"There is a plan for the space, and we hope to announce that very soon," he said.

Starbucks was located adjacent to Coach and JCPenney stores on the east side of the mall.

Officials with the coffee chain could not be reached for comment by deadline.

An August report in Business Insider pointed to Starbucks closing some mall locations across the country in favor of drive-thru and pick-up stores.

Starbucks Corp. (Nasdaq: SBUX) late last year closed a store at a northwest Springfield Price Cutter property at 335 N. Nolting Ave., according to past reporting.

A stand-alone store with a drive-thru at 1644 W. Republic Road, near the Kansas Expressway intersection, opened earlier this year.

The company's website lists 16 stores in Springfield.

At Battlefield Mall, a host of new stores have brought the property close to full occupancy, Springfield Business Journal previously reported in September. Lululemon and H&M are among recent additions.
