Starbucks Corp. (Nasdaq: SBUX) has closed a northwest Springfield shop located in a Price Cutter grocery store.
The 335 N. Nolting Ave. coffee shop shuttered Dec. 1, said a Starbucks spokesperson who declined to be identified.
"As difficult as this is, we must make the right business decisions for the sake of Starbucks’ long-term growth," the spokesperson said in an emailed statement. "As part of Starbucks' standard course of business, we continually evaluate our business to ensure a healthy store portfolio."
The spokesperson did not say how long the Starbucks location had operated at the Price Cutter store. Officials with Price Cutter operator Pyramid Foods could not be reached for comment by deadline. Price Cutter opened the grocery store in 2010, according to Springfield Business Journal archives. The company’s website lists Starbucks kiosks in five of its seven Springfield stores.
Starbucks over the summer announced the closure of 400 stores, according to past SBJ reporting.
The Nolting Avenue closure comes ahead of a new Starbucks store that's slated to open in southwest Springfield next month. The stand-alone shop at 1644 W. Republic Road is being constructed by Snyder Construction Group LLC and developed by Alliance Capital Investors LLC.
Nationwide, Starbucks operates more than 30,000 stores, including six free-standing locations in Springfield, according to the company’s website.
