Springfield Business Journal’s Nonprofit Excellence Awards will honor nine area nonprofits and three individuals serving the field.
The event, which was started at Drury University and later hosted by what is now Forvis Mazars LLP, was revitalized in 2024 by SBJ. Its mission is to recognize the passionate individuals and organizations dedicated to bettering the community.
An independent panel of judges selected the top nonprofit organizations based on the needs addressed in the community, impact of the mission, resiliency shown, funding strategies and workplace culture.
In the large organizations category, the top three nonprofits with an annual operating budget of over $3.5 million are:
• Boys and Girls Clubs of Springfield Inc.
• Empower: abilities
• The Kitchen Inc.
The midsize category representing nonprofits with budgets between $500,000 and $3.5 million are:
• Drew Lewis Foundation Inc.
• Springfield Dream Center
• The Child Advocacy Center Inc.
The final category of small nonprofits with up to $500,000 operating budgets are:
• Doula Foundation of Mid-America Inc.
• His House Foundation
• On Angel’s Wings
A top honor in each category will be announced live at the event, which will be held Aug. 4 at Oasis Hotel & Convention Center.
Also at the gala, SBJ will honor professionals with individual awards.
Determined by the judges, the individual honors are awarded in three categories:
• CEO/Executive Director of the Year: Kimberly Costello of Doula Foundation of Mid-America Inc., recognized for work to meet the organization’s mission, professional motivation and top achievements
• Board Member of the Year: Andrea Brady serving Lost & Found Grief Center, the Springfield Business Development Corp., Springfield Innovation Inc. and Greater Missouri Leadership Foundation Inc., recognized for her motivation for service, expertise, impact and overcoming challenges
