Red Racks signs on at another former Dillons

A Red Racks Thrift Store is coming to another former Dillons in Springfield.

Kansas City-based Red Racks, which is owned by the nonprofit Disabled American Veterans, is planning a January 2020 opening at 1707 W. Battlefield Road, said Douglas DePew, the thrift store chain’s general manager. A Dillons was located at the property prior to the company exiting the Springfield market in late 2014, and Pyramid Foods’ King Cash Saver operated in the building from 2015 until May, when it closed.

DePew said the Battlefield Road store would replace a nearby Red Racks at 2855 S. Kansas Expressway.

“It is approximately 10% bigger with the primary benefit of additional parking and a better covered drop-off donation experience,” he said.

Red Racks soon will take about half of the former King Cash Saver, said Jared Walker, owner of Grindstone Construction LLC, which is performing infill work. He said the project is slated for completion on Nov. 1. A listing from Jared Commercial Real Estate LLC shows Red Racks as a tenant and that the other 36,900 square feet of the nearly 67,000-square-foot building is available.

Greene County assessor records show the building is owned by Orange, California-based GVD Commercial Properties Inc.

Another Red Racks store recently opened at a former Dillons that had been converted into a Pyramid Foods concept. At 2843 E. Sunshine St., Red Racks and Aldi signed on as tenants for the shuttered Ruby’s Market, a Pyramid Foods concept that closed in December 2018, according to past SBJ reporting.
