- What are you doing to encourage peak performance in your organization? How are you reinforcing the desired behaviors that will lead you to achieve your business goals? Hi, I'm Sherry Coker with the OTC Center for Workforce Development.
Let's think about baseball. Every team needs a coach and high-performing teams have specialized coaches. For instance, a baseball team will have a pitching coach that works directly with the pitcher in practice, but also evaluates their performance during and after the game. Insufficient coaching, lack of support from appropriate specialists, and a lack of acknowledgement for accomplishments are three root causes that keep employees from performing their best.
Building a coaching system in coaching competencies in your team leaders, as well as implementing a system of feedback to reinforce positive behaviors are two actions that you can take to solve these issues. These systems will foster an environment of employee engagement, which is one of the main reasons for employee turnover in any organization. In addition, make sure to hold managers accountable for coaching and providing the appropriate feedback to their employees.
If you've determined that a root cause of your problem is lack of appropriate coaching and feedback, it's totally within your power to create a purposeful culture of positive reinforcement and coaching.
