Ozarks Food Harvest Inc.'s meal distributions in its recently ended fiscal year were up slightly compared with the prior 12-month period.
During fiscal 2023, which ended June 30, the Springfield-based nonprofit distributed 20.18 million meals, said Jordan Browning, director of communications. That compares with 20.16 million in the prior fiscal year, Browning said.
“The last year has been a perfect storm as families continue to deal with increased child care, housing and food costs,” said Bart Brown, president and CEO of Ozarks Food Harvest, in the release. “As demand increases, we will continue to serve as the backbone of charitable food giving in southwest Missouri to ensure families can put food on the table.”
Browning added via email that during the recently ended fiscal year, Ozarks Food Harvest had to seek out new food resources because of a distribution gap brought on by a decrease in U.S. Department of Agriculture commodities.
"We received 1 million pounds less in USDA commodities this fiscal year," Browning said.
