O’Reilly Automotive Inc. (Nasdaq: ORLY) dipped on this year's Fortune 500 list, despite a revenue increase by the Springfield-based auto parts retailer.
The company ranked No. 279 on the list published this week by Fortune magazine. That's down 11 spots from its ranking of No. 268 in 2021. The Fortune 500 ranks companies based on annual revenues.
O'Reilly Automotive's 2021 revenue climbed 15% to $13.3 billion, topping the $13 billion mark for the first time, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting.
"These accomplishments are all the more impressive in light of the extremely difficult challenges our team has faced the past two years," President and CEO Greg Johnson said in a news release issued in February to announce the annual earnings.
On the Fortune 500 list, O'Reilly Automotive is the fourth-highest-ranked company in Missouri, after No. 26 Centene, No. 199 Emerson Electric and No. 222 Reinsurance Group of America.
Carthage-based manufacturer Leggett & Platt Inc. (NYSE: LEG) was flat at No. 598 on this year's Fortune 500, which ranks 1,000 companies in all. The company reported 2021 revenue of $5.1 billion, a nearly 19% increase from 2020.
No other southwest Missouri companies are on the list.
The top five on this year's Fortune 500 retained their respective spots from 2021: Walmart, Amazon, Apple, CVS Health and UnitedHealth Group.
Springfield event venue Belamour LLC gained new ownership; The Wok on West Bypass opened; and Hawk Barber & Shop closed on a business purchase that expanded its footprint to Ozark.
