Five Guys Burgers and Fries
Five Guys Burgers and Fries franchisee Jeff Offutt opened the fast-casual hamburger restaurant at Battlefield Mall, 2825 S. Glenstone Ave., on Dec. 13. Offutt, who also operates two Five Guys stores in Columbia, said he is planning a January opening of a second Springfield Five Guys in the Town and Country Shopping Center, 2711 N. Kansas Expressway. Offutt said he spent roughly $500,000 to set up in Springfield and signed long-term leases with Simon Property Group at the mall and with Jared Enterprises at Town and Country. Between the two locations, Offutt said there will initially be about 100 hourly and salaried employees, including a nine-member management team, operations manager Tammy Pino and store manager Andrew Stufft. After about six months, he said the employee count would wind down to about 70. The 2,400-square-foot mall eatery is located in the outdoor lifestyle center near HuHot Mongolian Grill. The hamburger and hotdog chain, started in 1986 by the Murrell family in Alexandria, Va., opened its 1,000th store this year. Hours: 11 a.m.–10 p.m. daily. Phone: (417) 883-5492. Web: FiveGuys.com

Table Rock True Value Hardware
Table Rock True Value Hardware opened Nov. 14 at 12622 State Highway 13 in Kimberling City. Owners Harold and Telena Brox purchased the former Harter House grocery store for an undisclosed amount and spent $125,000 renovating the building into a 17,000-square-foot hardware store managed by their daughter, Mary Lou Thomas. Telena Brox said the eight-employee store offers typical hardware items, as well as party rental equipment such as popcorn, snow cone and slushy machines, lighting, dishes and silverware. Table Rock True Value sells Gravely mowers and outdoor equipment, EasyCare paint, Yankee candles, and pet supplies and food, and Brox said a hothouse in the spring would carry lawn and garden items. The Broxes also operate Grand Rental Station and the 250-unit Branson West Storage. As an independent retailer under wholesale cooperative True Value Co., Telena Brox said the store pays an undisclosed percentage of sales to gain access to the brand name, group buying power and operations advice. Hours: 7 a.m.–7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m.–3 p.m. Sunday. Phone: (417) 739-1981. Web: TrueValue.com

D.V. LaRue
Amy Michael moved D.V. LaRue on Dec. 7 to 3,600 square feet at 122 Park Central Square, a building previously occupied by architecture firm Hagerman New Urbanism but largely vacant for about a year. The move marks an alliance between D.V. LaRue and Nick Altrup’s 417 Marketing LLC in which the companies will share Web development and online marketing projects, Michael said. Altrup, who launched 417 Marketing months before earning a Master of Business Administration from Drury University in 2010, said his firm builds sites and handles Web marketing such as search-engine optimization and pay-per-click campaign management. 417 Marketing has 17 clients on retainer and juggles 10 to 15 Web development projects at a time, he said. D.V. LaRue, which moved from Hammons Tower, specializes in print projects, bulk mailing and graphic design. Its sister company, Springfield Cares, publishes a monthly magazine by the same name, and is launching a St. Louis version in January, said Michael, who formed D.V. Cares LLC to lease the Park Central Square space from Jerry and Sondra Hagerman. Hours: 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Phone: (417) 379-6393. Web: DVLaRue.com
