Nestle finds labor abuse among its Thai seafood suppliers

Global food giant Nestle announced it found its Thailand seafood suppliers are engaged in abusive labor practices.

According to the company, poor migrants seeking work in Thailand are being exposed to hazardous working conditions and inhumane living. Some are being charged fees, leaving them in debt, to secure jobs where they catch and process fish that ends up in Nestle's supply chain.

"Nestle is committed to eliminating forced labor in our seafood supply chain in Thailand, working alongside other stakeholders to tackle this serious and complex issue," said Nestle's Magdi Batato, executive vice president of operations, in a statement.
