Mercy to launch clinic in Frisco Building

Mercy Springfield Communities has a new clinic in the works on the east side of the city.

Health care system officials have scheduled a May 8 groundbreaking ceremony at the Frisco Building, 3253 E. Chestnut Expressway, according to a news release. They're calling it a "first hammer swing" to kick off renovation of a portion of the building for the clinic.

Jennifer Harmon, senior communications and project manager for Mercy, said via email the health care system is taking on the Frisco Building’s 26,038-square-foot second floor. McCarthy Building Cos. Inc. is serving as general contractor for the nearly $5.3 million renovation project designed by Buf Architecture Studio LLC, Harmon said.

"The location of the Frisco Building allows for ease of access through the Highway 65 corridor," officials said in the release. "Mercy’s vision is to have two locations strategically located on both the east and west sides of the community to allow for greater access to care."

Mercy broke ground late last year on a west-side clinic at 3530 W. Mount Vernon St., along West Bypass next to Walmart Neighborhood Market, according to past reporting. The $6 million, 11,000-square-foot clinic is slated for completion this fall.

Mercy Clinic Frisco is designed with space for six primary care providers, two pediatric providers, three providers focused on older adults, and three occupational medicine and therapy providers, according to the release. The plans also call for an on-site optometrist and optical shop.

Christina Angle, chief financial officer of Erlen Group, which owns the Frisco Building, said Mercy is occupying some vacant space and other square footage that became available after DairiConcepts moved out.
