Greene County makes two public information hires

The Greene County Commission this month conducted two public information hires, including one newly created role.

Robert Jehle was selected to succeed Donna Barton as Greene County's public information officer, according to a news release. Jenny James Hayward became public information coordinator, a new position, said Jehle.

Both appointments became effective Sept. 20.

“We are pleased to have Robert and Jenny join our team at the Greene County Commission. We are confident their unique skills and strengths will greatly assist us in keeping the public informed,” Presiding Commissioner Box Dixon said in the release.

Jehle said via email that Barton, the county’s public information officer since April 2018, exited two months ago. He said it's his understanding that Barton took another job in town.

Jehle has 13 years in local broadcast TV news experience, most recently working as executive producer for the evening shows at KOLR10 and KRBK, according to the release. At the county, he will deliver officials commission information and assist media outlets in communicating with the commissioners.

James Hayward comes to the county after most recently working as director of marketing for The Michelle Cantrell Real Estate Group, according to her LinkedIn profile.

Her position at the county of public information coordinator was sought about a year and a half ago by Barton, said Jehle.

"However, they were waiting for the right time and focus," he said. "Jenny has been brought on to help a team that will distribute the $56.8 million in ARPA funds, and also assist the PIO office in our general communications."

A portion of the county’s American Rescue Plan Act funding will reimburse James Hayward's salary, Jehle said.

Jehle said his annual salary at the county is $52,645, with James Hayward making $43,139.
