Former Israeli leader and Nobel winner dies at 93

Shimon Peres, the Israeli statesman who earned a Nobel Prize for his tireless efforts to forge peace with Palestinians, died on Tuesday. He was 93.

During his seven-decade career, Peres worked as prime minister, president and chief of the Labor Party. He was the last of a group of leaders who witnessed the creation of the state of Israel in 1948.

He earned the Nobel Peace Prize in 1994 for negotiating the Israeli-Palestinian peace deal known as the Oslo Accords.
